Fluctuating Water Temperatures

Some residents experience fluctuations in water temperature in their showers despite having replaced their tempering valves (see the item Hot Water Service, 8/10/2014, below).  It is possible the problem may lie with the cartridge in the tap unit, pictured.  This device mixes hot and cold water and offers precise temperature control. The wall mixer tap is an Alder ‘Nuova’ model 81390.  DIY enthusiasts can purchase one from Alder Tapware (www.aldertapware.com.au   Freecall 1800 800 919).  Part No. 00203 about $80.
Alternatively, you can buy a generic 35 mm ceramic disc cartridge from Reece Plumbing (56 Dundas Ct, Phillip ACT 2606) or other plumbing stores for around $36.  It takes about five minutes to install.
